Claudia V. Camp Faculty Research Award Lecture by Dr. Charlotte Hogg — Sorority Rhetorics: Heritage, History, & Sisterhood

Wednesday 21st February 2018

7 PM in BLUU Ballroom

Dr. Hogg’s work traces how dominant culture is shaped, sustained, and challenged by organizations that impact millions of women throughout college and beyond. Her research is the first on sororities in the field of rhetorical studies—the study of effective, persuasive communication—and considers how foundational sorority practices, such as teaching histories to new members, commemoration ceremonies for collegians and alums, and recruitment, demonstrate purposeful rhetorical work that influences values, particularly in terms of power and privilege.
